Dental Implants – Replacement Natural Looking Teeth in Sydney

Despite improvements in dental care, thousands of Australians lose their teeth each year. The most common causes are tooth decay, gum disease, or injury. For years the only treatment options available were bridges and dentures. But new improvements in dental care have brought us dental implants.

Implants are a safe and common form of treatment for people who have missing or even loose teeth. They can also be used to treat chronic dental problems. Dr. Hoffenberg and his team understand the importance of being able to smile with confidence, which is why they’re passionate about helping you improve your smile and dental health.

An implant is an artificial tooth root that is surgically inserted into your jawbone. Dental implants are a very durable and modern technology, resulting in a newly implanted tooth that looks and feels natural. In fact, neither family or friends will notice a difference and you’ll even have a hard time discerning between the “implant” and your natural teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Improved Appearance of Smile

Dental implants help to minimise or even completely prevent bone loss and further deterioration of your facial structure and retain a more youthful appearance.

Comfortable

You’ll still be able to brush, floss, eat, drink, and sleep with your dental implants because they are permanent – unlike dentures which need to be removed regularly.

Improved Oral Health

After you’ve replaced the failing teeth and roots, the implant will function like a real tooth. It even reduces your chances of developing periodontal disease.

Do I Need a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are a common procedure, and there’s a wide range of reasons that could lead to the need for having one or more implant procedures.

One of the most common reasons includes accidents or jaw disorders that cause teeth loss or injury.

Sometimes the reason is as simple as poor oral hygiene, infection, or bad habits like smoking that cause issues that (over time) result in the need for a dental implant.

However, that doesn’t mean that this procedure is exclusively for older adults, even teenagers and adolescents need this procedure at times due to injuries at school or during sporting events.

Single Dental Implants

A dental implant is often used to replace a single missing tooth. It requires one post and one crown and replaces your entire missing tooth from root to crown.

Implant Supported Bridge

A bridge consists of two crowns on either side of your missing tooth gap with an artificial tooth in between. Instead of having the crowns attach to teeth, an implant-supported bridge has crowns that connect to dental implants.

All-On-4 Dental Implants

All-on-4 dental implants are a whole set of false teeth that rest on 4 dental implants. The four titanium implants support a fixed dental prosthesis with a set of teeth. Once placed, your replacement teeth will look and feel similar to your natural teeth.

What To Expect

The first step on the road towards a perfect dental implant is the development of a treatment plan that suits your specific needs, as well as meets all your expectations. From there the root implant (a small post often made of titanium) is positioned and affixed in place. The root implant is placed into the bone socket of your missing tooth. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the metal post and anchors itself in the jaw. Once the implant is bound to the jawbone, a small connector post called an abutment will be attached to the post to hold the new tooth.

The replacement tooth, known as the crown, is then fitted to the abutment. Dr. Hoffenberg will match the colour of the new tooth to the colour of your natural teeth. The implant will look, feel and function just like it was always meant to be there!

Dental Implant FAQs

Does having my dentures fixed to dental implants really make a difference?
Yes. Dentures is like building a house with no foundations. Implants are the foundation that help to keep your teeth stable.
What are the advantages of dental implants over dentures or a dental bridge?
We can give you a beautiful smile. You can eat however you like and have the confidence to speak without spitting out your denture accidently!
How long do dental implants last?
The length of time your dental implants last will depend highly on your oral health practice, but they can last for decades with proper care. They have a very high success rate fusing to the bone. We will monitor your recovery after the implant to ensure proper placement and healing for long-term results. To increase longevity of your implants, maintain thorough oral hygiene, and keep regularly scheduled visits.
Why would I need dental implants?

If you lose a tooth as a result of an accident, tooth decay, root canal failure, or gum disease, your dentist may recommend a dental implant and an artificial replacement tooth (a crown or cap). Dental implants also may serve as secure anchors for a bridge or dentures if you have multiple missing teeth.

Do implants hurt?
In most cases, patients experience no pain when having dental implants placed. There may be some associated discomfort and tenderness in the days following the procedure, but this is not typical and can usually be managed with the medications your dental implant surgeon will prescribe you or over the counter analgesics. The nature of dental implant surgery has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. The use of sophisticated diagnostic and visualization tools and technology enable our skilled surgeons to achieve outcomes using minimally invasive techniques. By avoiding unnecessary or multiple procedures (such as bone grafting), post-operative healing is not only far quicker, but also far more comfortabl.
Is It a Painful Process?

Most patients who have dental implants have said that there is little to no discomfort during the procedure and state that after a short adjustment period, the implants “feel just like real teeth”.

It is for this reason many individuals choose to get implants to avoid the nuisance of removable dentures, preferring a permanent solution that doesn’t infringe on their quality of life.

Caring For Your New Teeth

To ensure the longevity of your new implant, specific techniques and efforts are necessary to keep it clean and free of destructive bacteria and plaque, which can cause infection in the tissues around the implant which could lead to failure.

  • Clean at least twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush.
  • Use a low-abrasive toothpaste.
  • Brush under and around the implant crown.
  • Floss daily with unwaxed tape or implant-specific floss.
  • Use a recommended oral irrigator.

Implants are a proven and successful medical procedure. How you care for your implant is an important part of success.
