Dental Practice Open COVID Level 1

Dental Practice Open COVID Level 1

On the 8th of May, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) has now approved the move from Level 2 to Level 1 for dental service restrictions. The great news here is that all dental treatments are allowed, including general, restorative and cosmetic procedures.

Check & Clean Appointments

Many of our valued patients missed their regular check-up and clean because of the restrictions with COVID-19, but it is important to remind you to schedule an appointment to get you back to the routine of optimum oral health.

If we had to cancel your appointment recently, we will endeavour to contact you to reschedule your appointment, or feel free to ring us at one of the phone numbers above.

Your Safety

To assure the safety of everyone in the practice – patients and staff alike – we will still be screening patients. As you know, we have always been very strict when it comes to sterilisation and disinfection even before COVID-19 and we will continue to do so to provide the cleanest and safest space to provide your dental treatment.

Once again, we are open and are now accepting appointments for ALL dental care including preventative, restorative and cosmetic services. If we had to cancel your appointment and you would like schedule one in now, ring our office and we’ll fit you in as soon as possible.

Pros And Cons Of Invisalign

Pros And Cons Of Invisalign

The Pros And Cons Of Invisalign

There are many advantages to Invisalign. When you know how much you can benefit, you’ll be ready to contact Dr. Yap to have your teeth straightened.

Price

While the exact cost of Invisalign treatment depends on the condition of your teeth, it’s more affordable than you think. The cost can be as low as $5,000. You’ll know exactly how much your treatment will cost before you make a decision. A payment arrangement is also available.

Comfort

Invisalign is a comfortable way to straighten your teeth. Unlike old-fashioned metal braces, the clear aligners won’t irritate your mouth.

Almost Invisible

The clear braces are almost invisible. You can go to work or school and enjoy your daily activities with confidence. No one will know you’re wearing the braces except you and Dr. Yap.

Convenience

You’ll also appreciate the convenience. It takes little time to clean your aligners, and they can be safely stored in their case while you eat. Eating is convenient with aligners, too. While food often becomes trapped in metal braces, you’ll not have this problem with Invisalign. All you need to do is remove your aligners before you eat, and replace them afterward.

Commitment

However, treatment requires commitment. You must wear your aligners for 22 hours each day. Depending on your circumstances, treatment can take between 3 and 24 months. For most people, Invisalign treatment takes less time than straightening teeth with metal braces.

Although cleaning isn’t time-consuming or difficult, your aligners must be kept clean. For the braces to be effective, you also need to brush your teeth every time you eat. Otherwise, food particles can remain in your mouth and become trapped underneath the braces.

A little commitment on your part can make Invisalign treatment a good experience. You’ll definitely be happy with the results. If you’ve decided you want your teeth straightened, and want to know if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, you can call our Innaloo office at or book an appointment through our website.

Our friendly staff is waiting to hear from you, and we want to help you reach your goal of straight teeth and an attractive smile!

Dental Emergency - Sensitive Teeth

Dental Emergency – Sensitive Teeth

Having a dental emergency? Most dental emergencies are nowhere near the severity of other medical emergencies.

In most cases, it’s the potential of extreme pain that is the issue, not health. You should still call your dentist right away.

In this article, we’ll address the issue of what to do if you notice that your teeth have become sensitive to hot or cold drinks and/or food. While this may not be an emergency, it’s important that we at least check out what’s causing this and what can be done about it. Here are some tips from Dr. Yap:

Why Causes My Teeth to be Sensitive?

  • A cavity or hole in your tooth or teeth
  • It could be sensitivity because you brush your teeth too hard and you have worn the gum and tooth down
  • It could be due to you using whiting or baking soda tooth pastes that can cause abrasion
  • It could be due to damage from grinding or acid wear (usually diet or reflux issues).

What to Do

  • Don’t panic, this is not usually an emergency.
  • Use Sensodyne or Colgate sensitive to help desensitise the area, you can even use the tooth paste and rub it on the area.
  • Stop brushing too hard or using abrasive toothpastes
  • If you grind your teeth, make sure you see a dentist as you may need to have a custom-made splint made for you.

If you experience a non-urgent dental emergency, it is still recommended that you contact Dr. Yap as soon as possible. While sensitive teeth is not considered an emergency and you have no pain, it’s worthwhile mentioning what you should know about dental emergencies. With most dental emergencies, severe pain may be a factor. If you can’t manage the pain without painkillers you might consider Panadol and/or ibuprofen – but only if you have no previous allergies or medications that can interact with these painkillers. You can check with your GP and pharmacy but these two painkillers are the most commonly used to curb dental pain. Codeine or tramadol can be added in extreme cases but you will need a prescription for this.

If you have a dental emergency, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to give you guidance and support.
