What to Expect During Your Invisalign Treatment

What to Expect During Your Invisalign Treatment

The Invisalign system is made up of a system of customised aligner trays made of a BPA-free clear plastic which fit snugly and comfortably over your teeth. These clear aligners gradually shift your teeth to their desired position in your mouth. Invisalign does not have any metal wires or brackets that need to be tightened. They simply are inserted into your mouth and switched out to the next set of aligners every few weeks. New aligners continue every few weeks until the treatment is completed, which can last from 6 to 18 months depending on your case.

Invisalign aligners are practically clear, so your friends and coworkers probably won’t realise that you have them on. And there is very little interference in your everyday routine.

The Advantages of Invisalign

Not having to worry about how you look is one of the best advantages of the Invisalign system. Invisalign dental aligners are practically invisible, which is great for self conscious people such as students who are concerned with their appearance. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is hard to detect, as well as being more comfortable and efficient.

Comfortable and Smooth

Each Invisalign tray is both comfortable and smooth. And they can also be removed whenever you feel like it. Brushing, flossing and eating doesn’t have to be interrupted when you use the Invisalign system. With traditional braces, brushing and flossing can take longer as well as be more difficult.

The aligners can be removed for special occasions! When your back home just reinsert! But if you choose to wear them, most people won’t notice them!

Invisalign also means that visits to the dental practice are a lot quicker – no need to change out wires and bracket. Just a quick check to make sure everything is progressing properly and then pick up your next set of aligners. All of this makes it a great choice for teeth straightening!

3-D Computer Imaging

When you first start the Invisalign system, a detailed 3D image will be taken of your teeth and a full treatment plan will be mapped out. The treatment plan will place your teeth in the best positions possible and aligners will be made up for each state. The Invisalign aligners will gently move your teeth into their best position. New aligners are issued every few weeks and continues throughout the treatment plan.

Enjoy Cleaner Teeth

With the Invisalign system, food never gets stuck in wires or brackets. With traditional braces the food that remains in the wires and brackets can lead to dental decay and plaque buildup. The Invisalign aligners can be removed for cleaning which makes brushing and flossing easier for the patient.

The No-Fuss Way to Straighten Teeth

Red swollen gums can be the result of crooked teeth, widely spaced teeth and crowded teeth. With properly aligned teeth, the gums fit properly around each tooth which results in the healthiest and strongest defense against future tooth problems. The Invisalign system of clear aligners gently moves each tooth to it’s mapped out position. It’s an easy and comfortable alternative to traditional metal braces.

Options to Replace One or More Teeth - Dental Implants

3 Reasons to Consider Dental Implants

If you’re missing one or more teeth, what are your tooth replacement options?

With today’s technology, there are several viable options:

  • A fixed bridge. Many dentists agree that dental care should be approached from a tooth-conserving perspective and placing a fixed bridge usually requires altering teeth that are otherwise healthy.
  • Dentures. False teeth while convenient have their limitations such as the type of food that you can eat.
  • Dental implants. Permanent natural-looking teeth.

In order to best preserve your remaining teeth, and to provide a natural-looking solution that is permanent, Dr. Yap offers dental implants as a more advanced and longer lasting solution.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are used as a complete tooth replacement and are made up of the following three components:

  • Post. The post looks like a screw and is normally made of titanium. It is integrated into the jawbone like a tooth root with  a process known as osseointegration.
  • Abutment. The abutment is attached to the post.
  • Restoration. The restoration, or crown, is attached to the abutment.

Reasons Why Implants are a Good Option for Missing Teeth

Conserves the Jawbone

Fixed bridges cannot stimulate the jaw bone underneath the tooth, and the jawbone will eventually begin to deteriorate underneath the missing tooth. Dentures also have the same problem (unless they are implant-supported) If you have missing teeth, the jawbone under the gap will continue to deteriorate the longer you wait, and the more likely it is that your jawbone may lack the integrity to get implants in the future without a dental bone graft.

Implant-supported dentures

Many people call our office with concerns with their dentures such as:

  • Poor fit.
  • Sores in their mouths.
  • Sunken lips.
  • Food restrictions.

If you wear dentures, you can get a fixed, permanent solution with implant-supported dentures. We offer various procedures and some even support a full arch of false teeth with as few as four implants.

Preserves your appearance

If your jawbone begins to deteriorate, it often causes the front of your face to appear sunken in and can make you look older. People with dentures often complain of having thin lips and sunken cheeks. The posts of a dental implant provide stimulation to your jaw which helps to produce dense, healthy jawbone material and keep your face looking full and youthful.

What's it like to have Invisalign as an adult?

Having Invisalign as an Adult

Are you unhappy with the appearance of crooked or over-crowded teeth? You’d rather not have a mouthful of braces, with ugly brackets and annoying wires. Perhaps you felt like you missed out on having a nice smile by not having orthodontic treatment when you were in high school.

There is now an effective and discreet option for getting that smile you’ve always dreamed of!

Invisalign – An Adult Orthodontic Treatment

If you are unhappy with the appearance of crooked or crowded teeth, no worries! Like many of your friends and neighbours, you can choose Invisalign which is a system of clear plastic aligners to gently move your teeth into the correct position.

Millions of adults around the world who thought the time for orthodontic correction had passed by are now enjoying a better smile because of comfortable, easy to wear Invisalign clear aligners. If you are wondering if this treatment is right for you, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Benefits

  • Shorter treatment times. Many adults don’t have complicated alignment issues and just want to correct the appearance of crooked teeth. Invisalign is a great solution for minor correction because it moves your teeth efficiently. Mild to moderate tooth misalignment can typically be corrected in as little as 6 months.
  • Almost Invisible. Metal braces can be a drag, especially if you’re making a big presentation in front of the boss of clients. With Invisalign, you don’t have to worry because the aligners are made of clear plastic and fit over your teeth like a mouth guard. Most people won’t even know you are having any kind of orthodontic treatment!
  • Removable. Traditional braces are attached to your teeth and can be a bit of a pain to clean. You’ll discover that Invisalign aligners are completely removable, so when you want to eat. you’ll be able to take them out to enjoy your favourite foods and clean and floss thoroughly.

Treatment of Emergency Dental Issues at Our Local Dental Practice

When Do You Need See an Emergency Dentist?

There are times when you  can’t wait a fortnight for the next available appointment, you need to see an experienced dentist now! You may be in a great deal of pain, or your day is impacted to an unacceptable degree because of an issue with your teeth, mouth or gums. Any of these qualifies as an emergency, and you will need to seek care at an emergency dental clinic.

Alleviate Pain

The biggest reason our patients see us is to alleviate pain. Pain can vary, from dull and throbbing to sharp and constant. One of the primary services offered by an emergency dentist is stopping the intense paid and discomfort you may be feeling.

Once we’ve got your pain under control, it becomes easier to assess the issue and the next steps. Dr. Yap may opt to perform treatment right away, and perform some exploratory work. Alternatively, if it’s not a serious issue and the pain can be controlled with pain management medications, we’ll schedule you in for a more routine (or perhaps more comprehensive) examination ASAP. With pain under control, you can likely get back to your daily life and come back at a later date for additional treatment.

Repairing Damage

If you have significant damage from a trauma that can’t wait, call our dental clinic and make an appointment with Dr. Yap.

  • Damage could be a tooth that’s been chipped or cracked and hurts a lot.
  • It could be a split-open lip caused by a hard contact during a football match.
  • Any number of dental or mouth-related damage scenarios.

As an emergency  dentist, Dr. Yap will know what to do; all you have to do is find someone to give you a ride to our clinic!

Knocked Out Tooth

A tooth that has been knocked out of its socket requires immediate attention. If it has fallen out or is still hanging on, your tooth has a significantly higher chance of being saved if you seek help right away. Call your neighbourhood dental clinic.

Uncontrolled Gum Or Mouth Bleeding

What causes gums to bleed? Quite often, you’ll see some blood around your gums if:

  • You tend to brush your teeth quite hard, gums sometimes bleed a bit.
  • After you’ve bitten something especially crunchy or with sharp edges.

Bleeding from the gums or any part of your mouth that just won’t stop is cause for concern. Seek emergency dental care right away because it could be caused by disease or other trauma to the mouth.

Dental Crown Came Off

Dental crowns are designed to be durable and permanent. However, a crown can sometimes become loose, and it may not possible to eat or continue with your normal routine when there’s a loose crown inside your mouth. It may become painful because part of the tooth  structure and nerves may be exposed.

If this happens to you, it needs attention right away, whether or not there is any associated pain, or the pain is mild.

Your Family’s Emergency Dental Clinic

Dr. Yap offers a full range of dental care services for your whole family. Regular check and clean, general and restorative dentistry as well as cosmetic dental services.

In summary, if you encounter one of the aforementioned dental issues, this is how we can help you:

  • Getting your pain under control quickly.
  • Tending to your broken teeth or mouth wounds right away.
  • Finding acceptable temporary solutions while a new permanent crown is made.
  • Stopping any oral bleeding that is ongoing and you can’t get under control.
