History

The Docklands is a product of the Melbourne Central Business Districts urban renewal project.  In the 1880’s the Docklands, located west of Melbourne was a swamp that was used as a dock for several wharfs, heavy rail infrastructure and light industry.  After the change of the shipping industry, the Docklands became virtually abandoned.  In the 1990’s the Rave dance scene began to take over the Docklands and now has many organized events at Dockland’s Stadium, which was built in 1997.
