COVID-19 Complications with Gum Disease and Dental Decay

Have you been delaying your dental check-ups and scale and cleans? There are now very good reasons to make sure your gum disease and cavities are treated. The British Dental Journal has published a study which has shown that having gum disease and dental decay producing bacteria in your mouth can increase the risk of COVID-19 complications due to bacterial infections spreading to the lungs.

Put simply, although COVID-19 is a viral infection, it can result in a super infection of bacteria in the lungs. The super infections reduce the ability of the lungs to exchange oxygen and keep us alive.

COVID-19 Exposure at the Dentist
