Infection Control Safety at Your Dentist Office

There’s no doubt about it, the global pandemic has resulted in major changes to the way we live, work, and play. Above and beyond toilet paper hoarding, supermarket queuing, and working from home, COVID-19 has also affected routine things like going for a routine dental checkup.

If you’re like most people, you’re probably wondering about sterilisation protocols and general safety at dental clinics during the pandemic.

The good news is that it’s perfectly safe to visit your local dentist. Like any healthcare provider, dentists have strict sterilisation protocols in place, and have done since long before COVID-19.

Here’s why your safety is assured at dental clinics, even in these strange times.

Safety at Dental Clinics

What your local dental clinic is doing to keep you safe

We can’t speak for all dental clinics, but at North Shore Smiles in Lindfield, NSW, Dr Caroline Downing and her team make the safety of our clients our number one priority.

That’s why we’ve implemented extra sterilisation protocols and COVID safety standards in addition to our regular procedures, which meet or exceed the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s (AHRPA) guidelines

In addition, we’ve upped the ante when it comes to cleaning and sterilisation our clinic, and not just in the treatment rooms. We were pretty good at keeping bugs at bay anyway, safety at dental clinics is essential and dentists are experts at protecting their patients from viruses and bacteria.

Why it’s Important to Have Regular Check and Cleans

We get it, it’s tempting to skip the dentist, especially during a pandemic. But that’s not a great idea for several reasons.

Recent data is indicating that people are eating more comfort foods, which often means plenty of sugar-loaded treats. While delicious (and comforting!), these can contribute to dental decay and other issues. Especially if routine care isn’t happening.

According to Kathleen Matthew, the President of the Australian Dental Association in NSW, it is still “very safe” to go to the dentist during COVID-19.

We prioritise your safety at our dental clinic. Dr Caroline Downing and the rest of the team at North Shore Smiles in Lindfield are on-hand to answer any questions you might have about visiting the dentist in these times. Please get in touch with us and we’d be happy to chat about our sterilisation protocols and the other ways our dental clinic can help keep you safe.
