Closing Gaps in Front Teeth – Veneers or Orthodontics

What Options are Available to Close Gaps in Your Front Teeth?

Gaps in your teeth might make you self-conscious and embarrassed. Having gaps between your teeth does not mean that your teeth are unhealthy or there are structural issues with your bite. Some people prefer to close the gap, while others are quite happy (as well as their dentist) with their oral health. In most cases, the choice to close a gap in your front teeth is purely cosmetic.

There are a number of ways gaps can be addressed. When you think about your priorities, it’ll be easier to choose the option that meets your needs.

There are two solutions we’ll discuss in this article:

  1. Dental veneers
  2. Orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign

Let’s address many of the questions that come from Dr Downing’s patients.

Time

It takes the least amount of time to obtain dental veneers. After veneers have been bonded to your teeth, you’ll no longer have that noticeable gap. It’s a quick solution if a special occasion is coming up and you want to look nice. However, while veneers can last for years, they’re not permanent. They’ll eventually need to be replaced.

Braces provide almost permanent results. The length of time required for treatment will depend on your situation, but clear braces and traditional braces are different. Treatment is generally shorter for Invisalign.

Cost

A dental veneer costs less than braces, but you may need multiple veneers. Depending on the size of the gap, veneers are not necessarily the most budget-conscious option.

Invisalign clear aligners cost a little more than traditional braces. If you consider the advantages, Invisalign is worth it.

Discomfort

Straightening teeth and closing a gap can be accomplished without discomfort if you choose dental veneers. There is little discomfort as you become accustomed to wearing clear aligners. When you want to avoid discomfort, it’s a good reason to not choose traditional metal braces. They can be a bit more uncomfortable throughout the entire treatment period.

Final appearance

A beautiful smile can be yours when you no longer have to be concerned about gaps between your front teeth. For the most natural results, Invisalign is the preferred option. Your teeth will gradually move so the gap no longer exists. The results are much better than concealing the gap with veneers, or the possibility of metal braces moving the teeth too far.
