Children’s Dentistry
To prevent minor dental issues turning into major problems, we recommend bringing your children in to see our paediatric dentist for their first check-up before they reach 2 years of age, and then coming back every 6 months. This allows us to monitor your kid’s oral health and tooth eruption. It’s best if your children’s first experience occurs at a time before invasive work becomes necessary, perhaps when mum and dad come in for their check and clean, have them come along. Early check-ups make it easier to build rapport and establish trust with the dentist for future visits.
Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more of your wisdom teeth – the four permanent adult teeth at the back corners of your mouth, two on the top and two on the bottom. If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), it can result in pain, infection or other dental issues, and you’ll likely need to have it removed. Sometimes prior to orthodontic treatment (ex for braces or Invisalign), will recommend extracting your wisdom teeth to make way for your new awesome smile. It’s a fairly common procedure, and we’ll probably use happy gas to make the procedure more comfortable for you.

Dr. Shehan graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand with a Bachelor of Dentistry in 2007 Since then he has worked in both hospital and private practice sectors before moving to Melbourne in 2011. He performs all aspects of general dentistry and his expertise lie in the fields of wisdom teeth extraction, restoring broken or worn down teeth and cosmetic dentistry. He is also a certified Invisalign provider. Colleagues and friends would describe Dr Shehan as an all-around nice guy who always has a smile on his face. He is generous, caring and will take the time to discuss any concerns that his patients may have about their teeth and their smile. Providing an excellent standard of care is of the utmost importance to him and his personal goal is to put a smile on every one of his patients’ faces. He is a committee member of Ivanhoe Traders’ Association and enjoys being involved in the local community. Dr. Shehan lives with his wife and baby daughter in Ivanhoe. In his spare time, he stays fit by training at his local Muay Thai kickboxing gym and plays golf.
